Being a painter I love to observe the play of light across objects, watching as the sun moves across the landscape or observing the way in which the light flows over a still-life or the figure with light reflecting from one form to another, casting shadows in wonderful shapes and colors. I approach each new painting with a sense of joy and adventure exploring the infinite variations of color and value. Color sparks an intense emotional response playing a warm hue against a cool hue, or painting the range of values as they appear in shadows, mid tones and light values. Every color is affected and enhanced by its neighboring color. My goal as a painter is to provide the viewer with a sense of serenity and peace, a place to escape.
